The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
