Ten individuals convicted of cyber-bullying directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of circulating fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.
A longstanding unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.
Their lawsuit states that Owens disregarded all credible evidence that refuted her assertions choosing instead to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her show and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was 54.
