Match Background
Nottingham Forest v Malmö and historical connections. The two clubs have a special connection, also meeting in Forest's previous European adventure in the mid-90s European competition, but it is the European Cup final from 1979 that connects these teams, with the record-breaking signing Francis scoring the winner of a largely forgettable match to secure historic victory for the Forest supporters.
"Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, grey-sweatered and anonymous amid all the excitement and joy, stood for a moment on a bench serenely viewing the celebrations," noted the journalist. Theirs has been an outstanding achievement that it is difficult to imagine happening again – from the lower league to continental competition in a short period."
One should note to reflect upon Malmö, who became the initial and final Nordic team to advance to the ultimate game under manager Houghton.
This match is a very different to that summit, closer perhaps to the previous continental meeting between Forest and Malmö in the mid-nineties. Forest are absolutely buzzing after defeating Liverpool convincingly at the famous ground on Saturday, while Malmö haven't played officially since 9 November following the conclusion of their domestic campaign. The popular prediction is on the home team tonight.
Numerous other matches on offer in this match tracking. The Glasgow club have already been beaten by a European rival this season. Rangers are rock bottom of the 36-team Europa League standings at the middle of the league phase with no points whatsoever. They badly want a victory if they are to have any chance of achieving a late surge for a qualification place.
Updates will continue with all nine of the 8pm kick-offs and provide the latest scores from the previous games, including Aston Villa v Young Boys and Feyenoord v Celtic.
